Thursday, November 10, 2016

On Monday, November 7, AHMA hosted the 27th annual Pritchett Lecture, in honor of AHMA's founder, W. Kendrick Pritchett.

This year's lecturer was Betsy M. Bryan, Badawy Professor of Egyptian Art and Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University.  Her lecture, which drew a large and appreciative audience, was entitled, "Invoking the Deity through Altered Consciousness: Egyptian Communal Temple Rituals before the primary Mystery Religions."  This was followed the next afternoon by a seminar on gender roles, sexual practices, intoxication, ritual practice, and religious experience in New Kingdom Egypt.
