John Lanier advanced to PhD Candidacy in the AHMA in May 2012. He completed his undergraduate work (A.B. Latin/Greek/Classical Civilization, 2005) and masters work (M.A., Classical Languages, 2007) at the University of Georgia.  

John's academic interests are broad and include topics such as: Greek and Phoenician interaction in the 8th century BCE Mediterranean; early Archaic Greece; Classical Athenian socio-political history and epigraphy; and Republican Roman political and military history.  His thesis concerns the evolution of the Athenian aristocracy from the late Iron Age to the end of the Classical Period.
