Palatine East Pottery Project (PEPP):
Long-term research project directed by J. Theodore Pena that involves the study and publication of the Roman-period pottery from the American Academy in Rome Palatine East excavations. The project employs traditional and innovative techniques to characterize the site assemblage, which consists of ca. 20 tons of pottery from across the Roman world dating principally from the first to the fifth century AD. The project aims to shed light on the consumption of craft goods and foodstuffs in the city of Rome from the early to the late imperial periods.
Pompeii Artifact Life History Project (PALHIP):
Five-year (and possible longer-term) research project directed by J. Theodore Pena that involves the analysis of sets of artifacts recovered in various excavations carried out in the past at Pompeii. The project aims to elucidate various aspects of the life history of artifacts in the town, including manufacture, acquisition, use, curation, reuse, recycling, and discard.
